A Doula is a woman who has delivered a child herself and has been trained to support families through the pregnancy, the delivery and the postnatal period. It is her job to support the family through the entire process and make you feel safe whether you plan to deliver at home or at a hospital.
A Doula will not replace the doctor, the midwife, the farther or any other relatives. She is an extra support who can help the family and her primary job is to support bringing peace, calmness, and care throughout the process.
Studies have shown that if there is a trusted and supporting person present under the entire delivery it is possible to reduce the number of C-sections by 50 %. It is also possible to reduce the use of anesthesia by 30% and reduce the use of contraction drugs to stimulate contractions with 40% - this is what we call the Doula effect
